Bob and Jeffs' thoughts about coverages for 2008

  • Crop inputs are at an all-time high and grain prices are high and are very volatile. Don't pass up opportunities to lock in a good profit this year.
  • Focus on how much insurance coverage you need rather than premium cost. How much coverage do you need? A tough question to answer is this: "How much income does it take for me to survive financially if I have a total wipe-out of my crops?" You can say that it never happens, but it does happen somewhere every year... a hail storm can destroy a crop in minutes.
  • We have a lot of producers who use a high-deductible hail policy along with crop insurance. You can purchase 20% - 30% deductible hail policies for a very low premium. If you are concerned about late hail, this will work just fine for added protection. Can it happen? YES Can it happen to you? YES
  • Bob Johnson Agency will be recommending Revenue Products this year. With price volatility and the associated risks, we feel you should consider RA (Revenue Assurance) with Harvest Price Option. We also can compare CRC (Crop Revenue Coverage), but it does have a limit of $1.50 per bushel increase on corn and $3.00 per bushel increase on soybeans.
